Many of you NEW INTERNET and TRENDY folks love hashtags. You think they’re the cool, hip way to communicate what you are doing on Twitter or Facebook. Hey, we all use the tubes for our own purposes. But seriously, some of you have got this all wrong. You know who you are.
Things Hashtags Are
- Nouns (Person, Place, or Thing)
- Company names, brand names, advertising, promotions, etc..
- Media, such as television shows, movies, music, or games
- Other uses fitting with the conversation or topic, such as memes, some adjectives, or explicitly written emotions or sounds.
Things Hashtags Are Not
- Verbs (Action, Being, or State of)
- Most Adjectives
- Full Sentences tagging each word
Example of Doing it Right
Mechanical Work? On a Corvette? Guess the recall hit France too! #GMRecall #LM24
Example of Doing it Wrong
#Corvette #RepairWork #Haha #Recall #LoveRacing #NotNASCAR #LookASquirrel #SomethingAboutCake #LeMans #UpLate #SmallGiraffe #Lolololol
Know the difference. It may save your life.
Because you know you don’t talk like this in real life.
