I have no basis for this projection, but I'm going to go on a combination of hunches and real-world observation.
Suppose
at the end, Emily overhears Flit's lament for Yurin. She has never
supported his fighting the UE, but understands that he wants to avenge
his mother and family, and protect his friends. He wanted to protect
Yurin, and he failed. In the years after, she would come to be his
crutch, the person he could lean on when he felt the most vulnerable.
The war continued, lives were lost. With Flit and the AGE, the
Federation is able to replicate some of the technology to fight back.
Battles were won, the UE was driven back. Flit feels satisfied enough
with these temporary victories to marry the girl who has been by his
side since the very beginning. They have children. They watch their
children grow. But the war never stops, the war continues to drag on,
and with each passing year, Flit becomes bitter and discontent with past
successes. He spends more time "at work", constantly developing battle
plans and strategy. He hardly comes home, and this hits Emily the
hardest, because she knows he is slipping backwards. She also knows that
the longer this war goes on, the longer her family must endure, and in
turn, worries about Ansem being involved in the war. She knew the day
would come when Flit would give him the AGE device, and the entire cycle
that began 40 years ago would continue.
TLDR: I believe his, and
her feelings are genuine, but you have to consider, that Yurin's death,
the war, and the strain of fighting, will continue to plague their
family until it ends, which from the looks of it, will not be in this
generation. |
