PROMOTIONS!
It’s not quite what I wanted (yet) but I was given my third title change and a raise this past week, to “Assistant Manager of Technical Support”. Honestly I have no fucking idea what that means, it sounds like an impressive title to chronicle all of the shit I’ve done over time, but there’s no party like a MO MONEY party, so you don’t look a gift horse in the mouth. Thankfully business has been slower probably due to the fact our latest version still isn’t fully released and our web product got NEW VERSION GET over the weekend, which has generated minor headaches because apparently it isn’t in the business of cleaning up after itself (read: temp cache) like an animal. We all know how much I loooooove to clean up after animals.
We now own an XBox 360, or rather Ashlynn does, as my birthday present to her this year was a 4GB 360+Kinect bundle and Zumba Fitness. She liked the Kinect so much from her sister’s last winter that she wanted one. Honestly I don’t have much use for a 360, though I may try Borderlands out on it if I can snag a cheap copy somewhere. She is buying me a PS3 for my birthday next month, which will be used for… GT5 I guess to start, maybe somemore shit. With so many games on my plate I am hesitant to buy many until I finish some of the ones I have. #firstworldproblems as Twitter would say. The next trick is to rewire the living room setup for multiple consoles and shit, we’re getting a new entertainment stand and I’ll probably need to relocate them all and get a bigger power strip for everything, as I also want to network everything out there on a cheap switch I nabbed off Woot last week. Good times.
Stalled on web development at the moment, mostly because I am lazy, but also because I haven’t sat down and thought out the hosting yet. Amazon EC2 is fun, but I’ve read that even the non-free basic instance runs a few dollars more than other places a year, and while it’s all probably relative, I might find someplace else for the hosting and keep the EC2 instance for work-related things, as I kinda want to see how it works in a SAS environment, assuming I can learn a little of that over time. I’m also entangled in annual weeaboo tournament shit ala Saimoe again this year and am focusing my powers there, which is giving me some ideas on how to focus the website, so a little might get done on graphics at least.
I dug my PSP out of the forgotten realm (my closet) and re-powered it for Super Robot Taisen Z2, which I was unaware of coming out a few months ago. For those unaware it’s a turn-based RPG involving multiple giant robot animes all in the same game intertwined in the story and gameplay. Because of licensing issues, none of them ever come to America except the OG Saga, so I either have to import them from Japan or pirate from the internets. I wish they translated them, because there is a lot of story dialogue that I can’t read because of moonrunes, but the menus and interface is pretty easy to learn and use, so I am able to play the game normally without too much trouble. Occaisonally I’ll get fucked up on a mission that requires specific conditions, which I usually turn to a friend that knows moonrunes to translate for me. Z2 features for the first time, Code Geass, Gurren Lagann, Gundam 00, Eureka Seven Movie, and more, but also brings back classics (with updates) like the new Mazinger, Gundam Wing not Endless Waltz (like, the original Gundams from the series for a change), Gundam X (FUCK YES SATELLITE CANNON) and others. No GGG or Nadesico like in W sadly, but I am loving Exia’s double-attack-on-kill, how broken Gurren Lagann and Kallen’s Guren Mk-II can be. The graphics are pretty badass, and it’s a two-part game with part two still yet to be released, so double the fun. I’d very much like them to stick with the Sony platform if they go to the Vita and offer touch-screen capabilities and I can still hack the unit and download the game. Fuck your Morality Police, when they translate and sell the game over here I will buy it.
Lastly, as mentioned in a previous post, I have an unhealthy addiction to Arizona Arnold Palmer Half&Half Iced Tea & Lemonade. I’m amazed at how popular this shit is, because I have a hard time finding it in half of the gas station marts I go into, and even the store. I wonder if BJs sells them by the truck load.
